Elder Beetles (Boxelder Bug)

Boxelder Bug Infestation
Boxelder Bugs

Boxelder Bugs are a common wintering pest, seen in our homes during spring, fall and warm winter days.

Outside swarms of Boxelder Bugs are seen in spring and fall on south to southwest walls of buildings. Infestations tend to grow in number each year. This pest spends spring and summer feeding on host trees, returning in fall and sometimes traveling 3 to 4 kms to a hibernation site. They are also seen in their natural habitats of leaves and in shelter provided along fences.

In extreme cases of structural infestation, control may be started during winter months from inside. They are most effectively dealt with outside during early spring and fall.
